Malaria is endemic throughout Malawi and continues to be a major public health problem with an estimated 6 million cases occurring annually. It is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children under five years and pregnant women. Malaria accounts for over 30% of out patient visits and is ranked 3rd on the list of conditions that result in Years Lost to Disability.  Community engagement is one of the new ways in which Malaria can be fought. MANASO network members in this plan period will add focus on Malaria as one of their reportable interventions.
